Florimour Floriography
Introducing "Florimour Floriograhy".
Having been a psychologist for over twenty years I decided to study floristry 2 years ago to do something for me as I always loved flowers. So after a few workshops I started studying a Certificate III in Floristry. We had to come up with a business name and I came up with “FLORIMOUR” meaning Flori= flower and Mour= life or existence. To me this represented what I was doing was purposefully incorporating flowers into my life and existence. I didn’t know anything about Floriography or therapeutic horticulture when I created the name, but now realise it was created with special meaning and its own language, and how powerful this can be therapeutically.
Studying floristry and growing my own flowers reinforced that this is my “mindfulness”. Then I started learning about the therapeutic benefits of working with flowers (even though I already knew it for me). Flowers elicit joy and positivity, and flower arranging can encourage mindfulness and relaxation, as well as serving as a physical reminder of these feelings. This is at the heart of the FLORIFUL workshops (Flori=flower & Ful= mindful) that I created. The workshops are not about creating “perfect” works of floral art, it’s about showing up “imperfectly” and using flowers to connect with your inner creativity, connect with yourself, connect with others and most importantly focus on nurturing yourself. Then having a creation to take home, as a little reminder of self-care.
I then began to learn more about Floriography and the history of the language of flowers, as well as therapeutic horticulture, and this is the beginning of this new journey. I will be running more workshops (see below) and training opportunities, as well as selling bouquets created based on Floriography and the “therapeutic language of flowers”.
Stay tuned for more to come..

Join us for a workshop of creativity, relaxation and nurturing at our in-person event at the Perinatal Child and Family Hub.

Discover the therapeutic benefits of working with flowers. Flowers elicit joy and positivity, and flower arranging can encourage mindfulness and relaxation, as well as serving as a physical reminder of these feelings, which is at the heart of the Floriful Worshops. The workshop is not about creating “perfect” works of floral art, it’s about showing up “imperfectly” and using flowers to connect with your inner creativity, connect with yourself, connect with others and most importantly focus on nurturing yourself. Then you get to take home your creation, as a little reminder to look after you.

Here at the Perinatal Child and Family Hub we are passionate about supporting people along the range of development and life stages from Perinatal (preconception, pregnancy, birth and postnatal), through to supporting parents of older children, adolescents and young adults. We know that women in particular, often don’t take the time to look after themselves, and tend not to talk about “How they really feel”, or carve out time to nurture themselves. So, we wanted to create a workshop for like-minded women at whatever stage they are at, to create an opportunity to connect socially in a safe and non-judgmental space, and to focus on exploring self-care, values, strengths, self-compassion and mindfulness through simple flower arranging.

The workshop will be facilitated by Clinical Psychologist Carla Anderson who has many years experience supporting women, and is recently gained her qualification as a Florist through a Certificate III in Floristry.
