Birth trauma

Birth trauma feelings can result from actual or perceived physical injury, psychological injury or a combination of both before, during and after birth for both the mother and partner.

We know that 1 in 3 women (and non-birthing partners) experience birth trauma feelings.

Common birth trauma feelings include:

  • Intense fear and re-living the traumatic events

  • Feelings of powerless and helplessness

  • Feeling abandoned

  • Feeling unheard and dismissed

  • Avoiding reminders/triggers of the trauma

Birth trauma

These birth trauma feelings may lead to Post-traumatic Stress Disorder, Depression and Anxiety. It can be helpful to seek psychological support for birth trauma feelings and PTSD.
